Tamil Nadu’s Energy Department has released a White Paper highlighting the state’s power sector challenges, including a debt burden of ₹2.47 lakh crore, manpower shortages and ageing infrastructure. Despite financial stress, the government plans an investment of about ₹49,500 crore for infrastructure upgrades, recruitment and generation projects to strengthen the grid. The report also noted rising borrowings in recent years, while the state confirmed there will be no power tariff hike this year.
