India is set to strengthen its maritime and energy security through a ₹51,000 crore initiative to expand its domestic shipping fleet. The plan involves procurement of 62 vessels, including crude oil tankers, LNG carriers, and container ships, aimed at reducing dependence on foreign carriers and improving trade resilience. The move is also expected to boost shipbuilding capacity and ensure stable supply chains amid global geopolitical disruptions.
