SEZ import relief to fast track chip projects

India's DGFT, effective June 1, 2026, amended the Foreign Trade Policy to exempt all permissible imports by SEZ units and developers from Quality Control Orders (QCOs) and mandatory BIS certification requirements — covering raw materials, capital equipment, and components. The move is expected to accelerate semiconductor manufacturing projects under the India Semiconductor Mission by reducing procedural delays and ensuring faster access to specialised global equipment.
