NGT plea challenges Centre move to relax industry distance buffers

The National Green Tribunal is examining a plea challenging the Centre’s amendments that removed fixed distance requirements for industries near water bodies, floodplains and other sensitive areas. The petitioner warned that locating polluting industries closer to residential and environmentally sensitive zones could increase risks from emissions, hazardous waste and disruption of natural drainage. The plea also challenges changes to consent renewals and deemed approvals for certain units.
