India Doubles Environmental Clearance Validity for Ports and Harbors to 20 Years
The Environment Ministry has doubled the validity of environmental clearances for ports, harbours, breakwaters and dredging projects from 10 to 20 years, via an EIA Notification, 2006 amendment notified on 22 September. Two further extensions of up to five years each are allowed, taking maximum validity to 30 years. Expert appraisal committees will review existing safeguards before approving extensions, giving developers more regulatory certainty for long-gestation projects.
