India can make small modular reactors 30% cheaper than global players: L&T

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) claims India can manufacture small modular reactors (SMRs) at around ₹30 crore per MW, roughly 30% cheaper than global quotes of ₹50–100 crore per MW. While still costlier than large PHWRs, L&T says India’s nuclear expertise, indigenous capability, and future order volumes could enhance the economic viability of SMRs under the SHANTI Act, 2025.
