India added 50.6 GW of module and 9.7 GW of cell manufacturing capacity in the first half of 2026, reaching 261.7 GW and 36.6 GW respectively, says Mercom India. Mercom warns that domestic cell shortages are now the biggest near-term challenge, slowing projects and pushing up compliant module prices. Gujarat leads with about 45 per cent of module capacity, followed by Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu.
