Ethanol blending in petrol can help India save ₹38,000 crore annually: Oil Ministry

India’s ethanol-blended petrol programme, with a 20% ethanol blend, could help reduce the country’s crude oil import bill by around $4 billion, or ₹38,000 crore annually, according to the Oil Ministry. The government said more than 20 crore two-wheelers and over 3 crore petrol cars have operated on ethanol blends without verified evidence of widespread engine failures, highlighting the potential economic and energy-security benefits.
