Centre’s move to scrap fixed distance norms for Haryana polluting units under NGT scanner
The National Green Tribunal on 7 October directed petitioner Dr Amit Kumar to submit documents on rules governing the siting of polluting industries and issued notices to the CPCB and environment ministry. Kumar challenges January 2026 notifications replacing fixed minimum-distance criteria with site-specific conditions for pollution consents, alleging diluted safeguards and no scientific studies. The Centre says the change streamlines consent. The next hearing is 15 December.
