Cabinet clears ₹23,731 cr GOBARdhan scheme to boost biogas production

The Union Cabinet has approved the ₹23,731-crore GOBARdhan National Circular Bioenergy Scheme for FY27–FY36 to accelerate India’s compressed biogas (CBG) sector. The programme aims to increase domestic CBG production nearly tenfold through assured demand, stable pricing, capital support, infrastructure, credit access and technology development. The initiative is expected to attract private investment, promote a circular bioeconomy, empower farmers and strengthen rural clean-energy production.
